June 19-23
With Elizabeth Jarrett Andrew
Tuition: $300, plus meals and lodging.
Program Description
What gives life to our writing projects? How can writers best serve that life? This retreat is an opportunity for writers to dive deep into creative solitude, be supported by a writing community, and receive guidance from an experienced author and instructor. Together we will explore how the Spirit nurtures our writing and writing nourishes our spirits.
Creative writing is a call-and-response between self and Other, willful exertion and receptivity, deep privacy and a public audience…
Building on Robert Frost’s wisdom, “No tears for the writer, no tears for the reader; no surprise for the writer, no surprise for the reader,” we will open ourselves to tears and surprise as we listen deeply to what emerges on the page.
The writing practice can become a spiritual practice, and vice versa: a commitment to developing the craft can deepen our connection to the Sacred.
Our Days will Include:
- two hours of group instruction
- small group meetings
- shared meals
- long stretches of solitary writing time
- the option for private consultations with a writing instructor or spiritual director.
Elizabeth is also willing to review participants’ work prior to the retreat in preparation for consultations. This retreat is for participants practiced in writing alone who want to engage deeply in a project.
