Living Tao: An Experiential Journey
into Deep Time, Deep Earth and Deep Knowing
August 15–18, 2023, Tuesday evening – Friday noon.
With Ron Moor
Hybrid offering-held both online and in person
For the Chinese, ancient and modern, the living Cosmos is the great dragon, to be experienced on cloudless nights in mythic form as the Milky Way. For at least 2,500 years they have named it Tao. Tao is the ancient name for the Cosmos conceived as a single living tissue, one being, generative, female and mother. Tao is also The Way, the way into and the way of living in harmony with all of creation.
Ah, the Mystery of creation. Where does it all come from, how does it endlessly keep doing what it does, ever evolving? How do we find our way into living more harmoniously with this mystery? How do we move beyond our destructive ever desiring materialistic culture? We need far more than good intentions, far more than human will power. Far more than technology. We need Tao.
While we will learn of the meaning and mysterious origin of Tao, our focus will be on opening to the mystery in a way that is felt and embodied as well as cognitive. The very poetry of the 81 short, enigmatic verses brings the reader into an awareness that is felt more than intellectually understood. We will read, discuss, meditatively contemplate and discuss some more the ancient words of key verses. We will enter the silence and the stillness where the words can come alive. We will be companions along the way.
In addition, each day we will venture into the surrounding woodlands as Chinese sages have done for millennia. There, if attentive enough, if receptive enough, the forest, the sky and the waters will also be our teachers.
Wednesday evening will be an embarkation on a sonic journey of resonant, harmonic sounds that open the door into the deep silence and embracing stillness of Tao. Thursday evening will be a celebration of our journey. Bring instruments, songs, stories, food and drink to share.
On Friday, our closing morning, inspired by our experiences, we will create and enact a ritual for our time employing sound, silence, intention, light and movement. We will walk the labyrinth of being and emerge carrying the light of the new structure of consciousness that Tao is birthing within each of us. Creation is calling. We all have our part to play in midwifing our future into our present.
