Spirit Doll Making: A Journey of Creativity, Spirit, and Transformation

with Brita Rekve

Step into a sacred circle where creativity and imagination becomes a doorway to the unseen.

There are moments when something in us asks to be met, not fixed, not explained, simply met. This retreat is an invitation into that meeting place. Think of it as a threshold experience of transformation.

There are parts of us that do not speak in words. They speak through image, texture, memory, and symbol. They wait patiently until we are ready to create them into form.

This retreat is an invitation into a sacred creative process where art becomes ritual and making becomes transformation. Through guided journeys, expressive arts, and ceremony, you will create a spirit doll: a physical embodiment of an ally, ancestor, guide, or aspect of self that is ready to be known.

This is not about artistic skill. This is about listening, allowing, and becoming.

Intentions of the Retreat

    • To experience creativity as a spiritual and transformative practice
    • To connect with inner and transpersonal guidance through image, imagery, and symbol
    • To create a meaningful personal object imbued with intention and presence
    • To engage in ritual, ceremony, and community in a grounded, accessible way
    • To honor the unseen dimensions of healing and becoming

This process is often profound, revealing insight, healing, and unexpected beauty.

If you have been longing for a deeper connection to your creativity, your spirit, or your own inner knowing, this circle is for you.

If you wish to bring something new into your life that carries freshness and possibility, this circle is for you.

This retreat is:

    • Trauma-aware and invitational, with no forced sharing.
    • Accessible to beginners and meaningful for experienced practitioners.
    • Lightly structured yet spacious.
    • Rooted in respect for multiple spiritual paths, without appropriation.

Brita is a great instructor and guide. She managed the dynamics and needs of the individuals in front of her. She challenged me to try new things and supported my learning with ease.

Spirituality and creativity are twin sisters I like to hang with. Knowing one I know the other and I love sharing my passion with these two beauties. Upon retirement from a career in social work and hospice, I started messing up all my good clothes while teaching Intuitive Painting and the making of Spirit Dolls in my art studio. It excites me to guide the “oh-I-am-not-an-artist” believers to the promised land because I believe we are all creative.

I also teach people how to create ceremony and how to journey using shamanic drumming as a way to connect with the spirit world. Connecting to the spirit world is critical to my health and well being. Shamanism is a spiritual path of direct revelation which brings healing and answers to life’s questions. I get really jazzed opening this door for people and guiding them to finding their own answers and creating relationship with their spirit guides.

I have been extremely fortunate to have had amazing teachers in my life. I have been a student of shamanism for several decades and studied with Michael and Sandra Harner and Sandra Ingerman, among others. I am trained in soul retrieval, psychopomp, extraction, divination, shamanic counseling and ethical practice.

I live in the Ozarks Mountains with my best friend Jerry and my wonder dog Frankie.
