Online Workshops
Each session is experiential and engaging, with opportunities to learn practical tools, ask questions, connect with others, and practice in real time so you can immediately apply what you’re learning to your life.
Session 1: July 7, 2026 6:30-8pm CDT
Intro to Empathic Dialogue: Building a Foundation for Meaningful Connection
Our communication habits shape how we relate to ourselves, others, and the world around us. In a time when division can feel heightened and disconnection is common, the ability to communicate with empathy is one of the most essential skills we can develop – for both our personal and professional lives.
This interactive, online workshop introduces the foundations of empathic dialogue and offers practical tools you can begin using immediately in any conversation. Open to participants of all levels – whether you’re brand new to mindfulness and Nonviolent Communication (NVC) or have prior experience – this session provides an accessible and supportive space to learn, reflect, and practice.
Together, we’ll explore the three primary aspects of empathic dialogue: presence, intention, and attention. You’ll learn what each of these means in practice and walk away with tangible strategies to help you:
-
- Stay grounded and present in conversations
- Clarify your intentions before and during communication
- Deepen your listening and awareness of others
Through guided teaching, reflection, and built-in interaction, participants will engage in a foundational empathy-building activity designed to cultivate compassion for both yourself and others. This session is not just about learning – it’s about practicing together, asking questions, and connecting with others who are also seeking more meaningful ways of relating.
You’ll leave with practical tools, renewed perspective, and additional resources to support your continued learning and integration beyond the workshop.
Session 2: August 11, 2026 6:30-8pm CDT
Compassionate Boundaries & Fierce Self-Empathy
Compassion isn’t just soft and gentle. It can also be clear, strong, and fiercely supportive.
In this workshop, we explore the powerful concept of fierce self-empathy – learning how to set boundaries, motivate yourself, and create meaningful change from a place of understanding rather than self-criticism.
Drawing on the work of Kristin Neff and principles from Nonviolent Communication, you’ll discover how treating yourself with empathy is actually one of the most effective ways to grow, change, and follow through on what matters most.
In this session, you’ll learn how to:
-
- Set compassionate, clear boundaries without guilt
- Make requests of yourself and others from a grounded place
- Shift from self-judgment to self-understanding
- Use empathy as a tool for motivation and growth
Session 3: October TBD 6:30-8pm CDT
Navigating Challenging Conversations with Empathy
Even the strongest relationships face moments of tension, misunderstanding, and conflict. What if those moments could become opportunities for deeper connection instead of disconnection?
In this interactive online workshop, you’ll learn how to engage in empathic dialogue with others so everyone feels seen, heard, and respected. Together, we’ll explore how to exude an empathic presence, listen with genuine care, and respond in ways that build understanding rather than defensiveness.
You’ll be introduced to a powerful framework for communication using the four key elements of empathic dialogue: observations, feelings, needs, and requests. With these tools, you’ll learn how to raise difficult topics without escalating conflict, and how to move conversations forward without blame, shutdown, or unresolved tension.
We’ll also clarify what empathy truly is (and what it is not), explore common non-empathic responses that lead to disconnection, and help you recognize when empathy is needed or when other approaches may be more appropriate.
This session is especially valuable for parents, caregivers, partners, friends, and professionals who want to strengthen their relationships and communicate more effectively. You’re encouraged to attend with a partner, friend, or family member as learning and practicing together can be transformative.
Session 4: December TBD 6:30-8pm CST
Empathic Caregiving & Self-Empathy: Preventing Burnout and Overwhelm
Caring deeply for others is a gift, but without the right tools, it can also lead to overwhelm, emotional exhaustion, and empathic distress.
This workshop focuses on the essential skill of self-empathy – learning how to experience your feelings and relate to your needs from a caring and understanding way. This is fundamental in order to provide others with empathy! You’ll explore how to navigate empathic distress and how to stay grounded and attune to your needs when you get triggered in a conversation. Together, we’ll unpack the three layers of empathy (somatic, emotional, and cognitive) and learn practical strategies to work with each of these layers in a way that supports both your well-being and your relationships.
You’ll gain tools to:
-
- Recognize when your empathy tank is running low
- Separate your experience from someone else’s emotions
- Know when to pause, reset, and refuel
- Stay present without becoming overwhelmed
This workshop is especially valuable for caregivers, helpers, educators, healthcare professionals or anyone who wants to care and support others without depleting themselves or pushing their feelings aside.
You’ll also practice techniques to regulate your nervous system so you can tap into your motivation and create the changes that you want within your life using the regulate → connect → learn → flourish.
Cultivating Empathic Connection
In-Person Retreat
September 11-13, 2026
Our communication habits shape how we relate to ourselves, others, and the world around us. In times of division and uncertainty, learning how to speak honestly and listen with empathy becomes a powerful tool for connection, understanding, and meaningful change.
This experiential retreat is open to anyone who feels called to deepen their connection with themselves, with others, and with the wider world. Together, we will explore the art and practice of empathic communication as a pathway toward greater intimacy, authenticity, and compassion.
Rooted in the principles of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), as developed by Marshall Rosenberg, alongside Buddhist mindfulness practices, trauma informed yoga, and somatic experiencing, this retreat invites participants to embody empathy as a lived, felt experience.
Throughout our time together, we will combine:
-
- Interactive teaching and experiential learning
- Mindful movement and gentle yoga
- Guided nature-based meditations
- Breathwork practices for nervous system regulation
- Peer sharing and small group circle time to practice new skills in a supportive environment
- Time to reflect on your own
You will learn a simple yet powerful three-step framework to transform everyday conversations. We’ll explore what empathy truly is (and what it is not), how communication shows up in all areas of life (including self-talk), and how to bring more presence, curiosity, and care into your relationships.
This retreat is not just about learning; it’s about practicing, integrating, and experiencing connection in real time. You’ll have opportunities to build meaningful connections with others, and you may even leave with a new friend or “empathy buddy” to continue practicing with beyond the retreat.
Communicate with greater presence, clarity, and compassion in everyday interactions, tense discussions, and moments of celebration!
“Kaitlin is wise, intuitive, and conscientious. It is clear that she prepares thoughtfully for any workshop she leads. While she is an expert in her trade, she is also humble nad invites conversation from the group. I immediately felt at ease when walking in the room and enjoyed Kaitlin’s grounding and calming presence as we discussed the difficult topic of navigating conflict with compassion.”
