Join facilitators Paul Norton and Nancy Newman for a weekend of deep exploration into our relationship with death—a journey that touches all of us. Through guided meditations, reflective presentations, and heartfelt discussions, we will create a space to contemplate the nature of mortality with openness and compassion. This retreat offers an opportunity to engage with the topic in a supportive and mindful environment, allowing for personal insight and shared wisdom.
Whether you are navigating your own questions about death, supporting a loved one, or seeking a deeper understanding of impermanence, this weekend invites you into a space of presence and connection.

Your Guides for the Journey

Paul Norton, M.D., and Nancy Newman, RN, BSN, MSN

Nancy is a Hospice Nurse with over 15 years of experience, specializing in end-of-life care. She has taught End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) training to hospice staff, sharing her expertise in compassionate care. A certified yoga instructor and long-time practitioner, Nancy integrates holistic wellness into her practice, complemented by her involvement with the Mindfulness Meditation Center. Since the 1990s, she has participated in retreats and seminars at the Christine Center, continually enhancing her personal and professional growth.

Paul is a Buddhist teacher and hospice volunteer, as well as one of the founders of the Mindfulness Community of Milwaukee and is presently its Spiritual Director. He was ordained into the Order of Interbeing in 1999 with the Dharma Name True Boundless Radiance.

9:30-10:30 am Common Symptoms of Actively Dying (the last phase of life)
10:30-10:45 am Break
10:45-11:30 am Outdoor walking meditation
11:30-12:30 Yoga (optional)
12:30- 1:30 pm Lunch
1:30-3:30 pm Plan your funeral (bring your favorite poems/songs for your celebration of life)
3:30-5:00 pm Sharing Session
5:00-5:30 pm Break
5:30 -6:30 pm Dinner
6:30-7:00 pm Break
7:00-9:00 pm Movie
9:00-10:00 Meditation (optional)
