Discover a path to inner harmony through the ancient wisdom of the Tao Te Ching in this heart-centered retreat. Blending heartfulness practice, contemplative reading, and shamanic sound journeying, we’ll explore the Tao’s enduring relevance in navigating the chaos of modern life. Come as you are—all are welcome to be companions along the Way.
Our world is changing, faster than most of us can comfortably keep up with. What to do, how can we keep our center? Can an ancient wisdom of living help us in our dizzying complexity of modern life, in the multiple crises hitting us seemingly at once?
Some 2,500 years ago an indigenous wisdom of ancient China emerged, mysteriously, to aid the people during a time of great chaos. Known as The Tao Te Ching, this Tao, this Way of Integrity, of Strength, of Communion with All that Is, has re-emerged in our time, A gift from our wise ancestors.
Together we will explore this Tao (which simply means way) that can help guide us to a calm center in the storm. To guide us to a state of being where our life can be in greater harmony with the unfolding of Creation.
Free of conditioned thinking,
we experience our true nature.
Caught in conditioned thinking,
we experience only who we think we are.
Yet both our conditioned nature
and our true nature are part of life itself.
Our conditioned experience of living
is a gate way to unconditional life.
Tao 1, translation by William Martin
We will explore the Tao through our heart center with the practice of Heartfulness. Through this technique the ancient sayings of The Tao will be more open to us. We will learn how to bow with the winds of change and cultivate ways of being that benefit ourselves, our loved ones and all of creation.
This Way, this Tao Te Ching, has deep roots in the ground of being. Indeed, it is an ancient practice of being in communion with our ground of being. Shamanic in origin, it has intriguing connections with the very foundations of our Western culture.
Together we will read, discuss and silently contemplate some of the key texts of the 81 short verses of The Tao Te Ching. We will explore its shamanic roots, its indigenous connection to the land. We will enter the silence and the stillness of deeper knowing of the heart.
On our closing evening, Wednesday the 6th, we will experience a Sonic Journey of shamanic and temple soundings guiding us into the deep silence. After, we will gather on the patio for celebration and conviviality. Bring a snack or beverage to share and if you wish, your musical instrument.
Handouts of the verses and techniques will be provided. All are welcome to come and explore. We will be “companions along the way”.
