Way of the Sage

The Tao in Summer

with Ron Moor

August 24–27, 2026

What does it mean to be a sage in our world today? To be wise? And just what does that mean, to be wise? And why do images of the wise almost always show old men in long white beards?

The Tao Te Ching is considered to be a meditation on living in wisdom and harmony. Its origins date back over two and a half millennia, emerging from within the Chinese mists where history meets legend. Yet somehow its 81 short, pithy poems engage us and challenge us and comfort us today. Increasing numbers of us are reaching for this little book and finding wisdom for these troubled times.

One of our guides will be The Sage’s Tao Te Ching by William Martin. Now over 80, he has authored 14 books based on The Tao Te Ching. Here and there, we will balance the prose with meditation and a little Chinese Taoist art and poetry to better immerse ourselves in this remarkable, timeless bubbling spring of gentle being. Most of all, we will be in dialogue, following wherever the Sage chooses to lead us.

We meet Monday evening the 24th through noon on Thursday the 27th. Wednesday evening we will gather in celebration of our journey together. If you wish, bring a bit of a snack or even a libation to share. Those new to The Tao as well as those who have walked The Way for a while are equally welcome. Bring a translation or two if you would like.

Free of conditioned thinking,
we experience our true nature.
Caught in conditioned thinking,
we experience only who we think we are.

Yet both our conditioned nature
and our true nature are part of life itself.
Our conditioned experience of living
is a gate way to unconditional life.

Tao 1, translation by William Martin

Handouts of the verses and techniques will be provided. All are welcome to come and explore. We will be “companions along the way”.
